At Nuvo Dental Dawlish Centre, dental health and dental hygiene are intertwined because we understand that prevention is always better than cure. We prioritise preventive dental care, placing dental hygiene at the forefront of our services. Our team of hygienists are adept at maintaining our patients’ dental hygiene at an optimal level and can customise care plans for each individual patient.

Why is dental hygiene so important?

Dental hygiene serves as the cornerstone of preventive care. Effective dental hygiene can mitigate various oral health issues, such as tooth decay and gum disease, thereby minimising the need for interventions.

What constitutes good dental hygiene?

At Nuvo Dental Dawlish, proper dental hygiene comprises diligent at-home routines and regular visits to our hygiene team. We advocate for biannual dental hygiene appointments for our patients. During these appointments, our highly skilled and friendly dental hygienists monitor your dental hygiene, provide guidance on at-home care, and make referrals to your dental team as necessary.

What happens during a dental hygiene appointment?

Your dental hygienist conducts a comprehensive examination of the mouth and gums, followed by a meticulous cleaning of the teeth to eliminate plaque, tartar, debris, and superficial staining. They also offer personalised advice on home care and can devise a tailored routine based on your specific requirements.

What should I be doing at home?

We can develop a care routine to follow at home for each individual patient, but we always recommend:

  • Brushing your teeth at least twice a day for two-three minutes with fluoride toothpaste
  • Flossing daily
  • Brushing your tongue as well as your teeth
  • Changing your toothbrush or toothbrush head every three months
